How to Improve your Black Friday + Small Business Saturday Sales [Part 1]

black friday sale tips for business owners

I’m going to give you a tip right now: start early

If your brand is global or you’ve grown your audience to ever-loyal peeps who tune in to your stuff even when you don’t show up for months, then you might get away with just popping up around the season. Personally, I need to work a little harder at it and chances are so do you.

If you’ve seen my Three for Thursday episode on this then you already know the three basics to how this works. If you haven’t seen it, I’ll drop it right here:

So basically, here’s those three main tips:

  1. Brand Awareness

  2. Education

  3. Preparation

I have lots more to say about each part, so I decided to break it out into a blog + YouTube series.

First, I want to make it clear that I’m not going to tell you what your sale or special should be. This is for the business owner that knows they want to run a sale, or ran one in the past and want to level that up a bit this year.

So for some pre-game homework, have the details of your sale mapped out. Get a notebook out, call up your business buds and brainstorm it all out if you need to. Hell, bring out the whiteboard! Get a poster board out and some post-it notes!

Also, it’s good practice to define what “success” means for you this sale season. Are you trying to sell a certain number of items? Make a specific amount of money? Get more people on your emailing list? Get booked out for the first quarter of the next year? What is it you want to happen from this sale? You won’t know if you’ve had a successful sale unless you define what that means. So do that now.

We’re aware that everyone will be flooded with emails, alerts, texts, stories, and ads.
So we naturally ask the question, “How do I stand out?”

Good question, but what we really need to focus on is “How do I get on my audience’s radar beforehand?”

Because if you just pop in their email box on the day of with your best effort to stand out, there’s a good chance you will be deleted or unread until the time for your special or sale has passed.

So we ask again,

How do I get on my audience’s radar beforehand?

That’s what we’ll be breaking down over this series.

Get ready to follow along and prep your business up for an awesome Black Friday / Small Business Saturday sale this year!

As each part of the series goes life, I’ll add the links to them right here:
